At Ekidna we believe that children's health and nutrition has a profound impact on their overall learning and wellbeing. We pride ourselves on providing freshly cooked meals by our chef, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack. By following the  recommended dietary guidelines by NSW Health we are able to ensure the children are provided adequate nutrition food for healthy living and growing.

Our philosophy also leads us to value the role of the early years in building healthy habits for life. This is supported through our participation with munch and move. Munch and Move is a NSW Health initiative that "assists educators to implement a fun, play-based approach to supporting healthy eating and physical activity habits in young children" (2017, Healthy Kids). This program aims to help children develop their self-awareness and begin to make healthy choices for themselves - both in relation to nutrition and physical movement.

Each child is actively encouraged to drink an adequate amount of water each day. The educators promote healthy water intake by taking the time to sit with children and reminding the children to drink water throughout the day. The children's water bottles (provided by families) are re-filled often throughout the day to ensure fresh water is available at all times.

Promoting and ensuring the health and wellbeing of all children is of utmost importance to us at Ekidna. This means that we work in close partnership with families to ensure the greatest of attention and care is given to all children, including those with additional health requirements such as allergies, asthma, health conditions or special rights.

"Establishing sound eating and activity habits from an early age gives children the best chance of leading a healthy life and maintaining a healthy weight. Munch & Move supports the NSW Government’s priority of preventing childhood overweight and obesity."
